QUALITY BEGINS WITH PLANNING.
Every energy recovery system is unique in its form and design so all influencing factors must be taken into consideration. This ensures that the desired efficiency can be provided by the system when it’s in operation. By calculating the energy savings and peak reductions, it’s possible to calculate the energy and power that must be provided by other sources. The ERS optimization data must be reliable, otherwise additional heating and cooling sources will be incorrectly designed with a corresponding effect on the indoor climate during operation.
MATHEMATICAL MODELS & DIGITAL TWIN
The design and optimization of Syskon software is consistently data-based using mathematical models. This achieves a precision that makes reliable calculation of energy and performance values possible. Konvekta design engineers create a Digital Twin of the specific system based on the requirements and site conditions. This process consists of individual components, each of which has been assigned characteristic mathematical control models and performance maps, which are inserted into the desired topology as part of the design process. Only with knowledge of the control behavior of the components, such as pumps and valves along with the exact performance maps of the heat exchangers, can the data be modeled and calculated.
ANALYSIS OF COMPLEX SYSTEMS
Syskon is capable not only of optimizing simple cycle multiple zones systems, but can also model and analyze complex structures. For example, exact calculations of compound ERS systems and individual zone properties or the integration of applications such as free cooling, waste heat recovery, filter preheaters and heat exchangers, even in combination, are possible. Even several interdependent cycles, such as a Zero Emission Energy Recovery System (ZEERS), are mapped in this way and optimized down to the last detail.
ANALYSIS OF EVERY SYSTEM CONDITION
Not only is the level of detail of the design with Syskon extraordinary, the simulation depth of the software is also remarkable. ERS systems are typically designed at the winter design point or the summer design point. Konvekta designs our systems to be effective at the winter design point, the summer design point and at humid day conditions, but optimizes our system performance at a design point of 40F outdoor air temperature where the most conditioning hours of the year occur. Our Syskon software calculates for each 8,760 hour of the year, the energy required to heat or cool the building, the energy consumed by the energy recovery system and the amount of energy recovered.
ITERATIVE OPTIMIZATION
Suboptimal operating points are identified on our HX diagram output so that the design engineer has an overview of which of the 8,760 hours of the year need to be considered more closely and where adjustments in the system design are necessary. Using this data, the engineer can optimize the system design in steps so that suboptimal states are eliminated.
DIRECT EXCHANGE IN THE PLANNING PROCESS
Proceeding based on the Digital Twin and integral planning, sustainability and economic efficiency are brought to the forefront. The fact that the entire ERS system is available as a model at an early stage means that design engineers can evaluate alternative designs and options during the planning phase. This not only affects the technical aspects of the system, but also includes return on investment considerations at early stages of the design because the additional energy recovery from technical improvements can be directly compared in economic terms.
