Government subsidies

Due to the high CO2 savings, significant subsidies can be obtained, depending on the country and region. Due to the data-based optimization process, detailed and reliable energy and CO2 information is available during the design phase. This information can be used for subsidy applications. The continuous recording of data when the system is in operation makes it easier to prove that the savings submitted for funding are achieved in practice.

Cost security (from planning to execution)

The energy recovery system is designed from the start for operation over all 8760 hours of the year, instead of just for the winter design point and the summer design point, as is the case with conventional systems.

Minimum space requirement

Often there is little space available for ventilation in projects and valuable space needs to be used as efficiently as possible. Konvekta ERS meet this requirement in various ways.

Konvekta heat exchangers have a very compact construction and are less deep than conventional heat exchangers. They achieve higher recovery values than comparable systems and achieve recovery coefficients of over 80%.
The multi-functional use of energy recovery (feeding heat and cold into the water/glycol cycle) eliminates the need for heating coils and cooling coils which makes air handlers shorter.
This results in area savings of approximately 20-30% for the air handling units.

Optimized annual operation

Conventional energy recovery systems are designed according to nominal conditions at 40°F and maximum general conditions (maximum air volumes and extreme outside air temperatures). This determines the temperature efficiency/heat recovery coefficient and determines the peak demands that the ERS must cover.

In addition to this static analysis, Konvekta goes a step further with dynamic analysis over the course of the year. Using mathematical models in the Digital Twin process, partial load cases are verified over the course of the year on the basis of site weather data and taking into account the time-of-day usage. This optimizes not only a few operating points, but all 8760 hours of the year and the total energy recovery over the course of the year. After all, energy recovery – in terms of sustainability – is the real goal of the ERS.

Separated air streams (hygiene)

The supply and exhaust air are completely separated from each other. This can only be achieved with closed loop systems like the Konvekta ERS. Other energy recovery systems have leaks and result in cross-contamination. Complete separation of the supply air from the exhaust air creates a hygienic added value for occupants. This applies not only to rooms with exceptionally high hygienic requirements (such as in medical facilities or in the pharmaceutical industry), but is also a great advantage in general. Especially in times of pandemics, like with the Corona Virus, (a virus transmitted in aerosols), this became very clear. 100% fresh air for the building – 100% hygienic.

The efficiencies promised in the design phase and with the performance guarantee are continuously recorded, calculated, and archived during post occupancy. All energy quantities such as demand, recovery and theoretical maximum possible power are visible and verifiable on the controller at any time. This makes system performance and efficiency transparent and verifiable.
